Green Tech: China's IT Solutions for Environmental Sustainability

In today's 21st century, environmental sustainability has become a global concern. China, as the world's second-largest economy, is leading a green technology revolution with its unique IT solutions, contributing Chinese wisdom and strength to global environmental sustainability.

Let's start with a story about Xiangtan Iron & Steel Group. In collaboration with China Mobile and Huawei, Xiangtan Iron & Steel Group launched the 5G smart steel project in Xiangtan, Hunan. Through 5G remote control of overhead cranes and 5GAR remote assistance, the project has increased production efficiency by 30%, improved the quality of steel, and reduced the cost of raw material waste. It is expected that Xiangtan Iron & Steel Group will reduce carbon emissions per ton of steel by 5% in the next three years. This practice not only enhances the company's economic benefits but also embodies a deep interpretation of environmental sustainability.

Huawei, a company on the path of green ICT, is extending its practices in the ICT industry to other high-energy-consuming and high-carbon-emitting industries, becoming the most effective path to reduce carbon emissions across society. Huawei's practices are also the direction being guided by GeSI, the most influential environmental industry organization in the global ICT industry. By 2030, ICT technology could reduce global carbon dioxide emissions by 20%, ten times its own carbon emissions.

The Chinese government also plays a significant role in promoting environmental sustainability. In the opinions issued by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, it is mentioned to accelerate digital empowerment and build a digital governance system for a beautiful China, constructing a green and smart digital ecological civilization. In addition, China has proposed to accelerate the implementation of pollution reduction and carbon emission reduction synergistic projects, supporting major projects such as low-carbon energy structure, clean mobile sources, green key industries, and circular industrial parks.

China's achievements in green technology are not only reflected in policies and cooperation but also in specific technological innovations and applications. For example, Huawei's AI-based photovoltaic inverters have improved the efficiency of photovoltaic systems. In Jujuy Province, Argentina, a photovoltaic power station supported by Huawei's smart photovoltaic solutions has been put into operation, generating about 660 million kWh of electricity annually, providing clean electricity for 160,000 households.
