Battle for Blue Skies: China's Air Pollution Control Achievements

In China, a war without smoke is fiercely underway, a war named the "Battle for Blue Skies." The target of this war is to combat air pollution and protect our blue skies and white clouds. From heavy smog to frequent clear skies, China has achieved remarkable success in air pollution control.

Awakening and Action: The Bugle of the Battle for Blue Skies

In 2013, air pollution in China reached a critical point. That year, a large-scale smog event lasted for nearly a month in the central and eastern parts of China, affecting about 800 million people. This smog served as an alarm bell, awakening China's determination to control air pollution. Subsequently, China introduced the "Air Pollution Prevention and Control Action Plan" (known as "Air Ten") and the "Three-Year Action Plan to Win the Battle for Blue Skies," initiating systematic air pollution control actions.

Significant Effects: Substantial Improvement in Air Quality

With the implementation of policies, China's air quality has significantly improved. Beijing's PM2.5 concentration dropped from 89.5 micrograms per cubic meter in 2013 to 33 micrograms per cubic meter in 2021, a decrease of 63.1%, reaching the national secondary standard for the first time. The average PM2.5 concentration in 74 key cities nationwide was 30 micrograms per cubic meter, a 55.9% decrease from 2013, with the proportion of good air quality days reaching 85.2%, a 19.5 percentage point increase from 2013. Behind these data lies China's firm steps in ecological civilization construction.

Technological Support: Precision Pollution Control Weapon

Technology plays a significant role in the Battle for Blue Skies. China has implemented a special project on the causes and control of heavy air pollution, providing strong scientific and technological support for future precision pollution control. Through technological innovation, China has made breakthroughs in air pollution prevention and control, offering valuable experience to other regions and even globally.

Green Transformation: Adjustment of Industrial Structure

In the Battle for Blue Skies, China not only focuses on pollution control but also emphasizes green transformation. China adheres to the new concept of development that is innovative, coordinated, green, open, and shared, using resource and environmental constraints to promote in-depth adjustment of the industrial structure. By vigorously developing strategic emerging industries, China has taken solid steps in green development.

Global Contribution: Chinese Wisdom and Solutions

China's Battle for Blue Skies is not only a domestic war but also part of global environmental governance. China actively participates in global environmental governance, contributing Chinese wisdom and strength to the implementation of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, promoting global sustainable development, and building a clean and beautiful world together.
